Goodbye NYC, Hello Coronado

Last week I had some friends visiting from New York.  They are a couple friend of mine, both amazing people and my BFFs from NYC.  Years before they met and before I moved to NYC, one of them made a trip to Coronado with some of our other friends for the Holidays.  The majority of them were living in New York so they figured getting out of the cold east coast for a trip to Cali was a great idea.  And let me tell you, it was a fantastic idea.

These two were living in the midst of a cruel New York winter and needed to get out ASAP. This has been one of the toughest winters in decades for East Coasters, with non-stop snow, bone chilling temperatures and winds that make you weak in the knees.  The only parts of your body that are exposed is your face...which you can’t really feel.  Your nose is ice, your cheeks are flushed and a constant stream of tears and snot roll from your eyes and nose. But you can’t really feel it because your nose may as well be ice. So instead of subjecting themselves to more snow days, my friends decided to head west.

Upon arrival at San Diego Airport, the rain that had been sporadic all day decided it was time to let loose. I cringed at the thought of them getting off the plane expecting sunshine and clear skies.  Instead, the top of their rented Convertible remained in place and they headed to Coronado, wipers in overdrive.  After several apologies about the weather (like I had any control), I was told it didn’t matter! It was still aeons better than where they had just come from and hey, it was bound to get sunny the next few days, right?!

That’s right, indeed! Following the rainshowers were several days of mixed clouds and sun.  I would have preferred perfection for my besties but in their minds, it was.  I sometimes forget just how lucky we are to have nonstop, great weather.  There may be a day here and there that isn’t the best, but let’s be honest, it could be a lot worse. I’m sure my friends would agree.
