The beach at night is one of my favorite things.  Not only do I love to look at the stars but being on the beach at night when no one else is around brings a sense of euphoria.  The salty ocean air combined with the melodic sound of crashing waves and a slight ocean breeze.  The cool sand between your toes and the teeny dots of lights that rest on the horizon.

I’m not sure that I would feel such peace with the beach at night if it weren’t for my sister.  When we both lived at home in our teenage years, we were best friends.  We still are to this day because she is the type of older sister that everyone wants. If you have an older sibling then you may know what I’m talking about. I idolized my older sister, as most younger siblings do and was lucky enough that my sis always invited me along wherever she went.  I would have given my right arm to hang out with her.  But I didn’t have to because she always insisted that I be there.

The times that we spent alone were the ones that I cherished the most, and I think she knew this.  On these occasions, my sis would take me to the beach at night.  We would sit on the rocks or in the sand for hours, talking about anything and everything.  During these beachy nights we would up gaze at the stars, point out Orion’s Belt and The Big Dipper.  We would try and create our own galaxies with stars we did not know the name of while chit chatting about our day. I miss doing this with her, especially since she doesn’t live here. Whenever she does come to town we make a point of having our beach nights and sharing a special bond on Coronado beach.
